Service Record series
Once a week for seven weeks, or at any
other intervals you choose, bring one of these great scientists to your
classes.
1) Pass around this picture, which we
supply with the record. The picture, done by the beautiful gravure
process, is on heavy photogravure paper, size nine inches square.
2) Read his brief biography which we
have printed on the back of the picture.
3) Put the scientist's record on a
portable or other phonograph, for the instruction and inspiration of the
classes. Play it once or twice or as many times as necessary to be sure
that the students will remember what they have heard. That is a great
advantage of this method.
4) Then, if you desire, discuss the
speech with the students, asking questions. For your convenience in
teaching, the full speech is also printed on the back of the photograph. |

There

and Marge: Marge: How do you do ? Announcer: We've
come to see you for just a moment to let you hear Myrt and Marge in action.
May we use your home for a studio? Thank you. The microphone please. (thumping
noise)That's fine. Are you ready girls? Myrt and Marge: All ready! Announcer:
Let's go !
(door
slams) Myrt: Margie!
Marge:
Myrtle! Where have you been? I've been so worried! Why--
you're hurt! Myrt: Has fifteen minutes been called? Marge:
Yes. Oh, but Myrtle, you can't go on! You're as white as a sheet!
Your clothes are torn! Oh, tell me! Myrt: Later Margie. I've
got to hurry to make it. Help me off with these clothes! Oh, my knee! Marge:
Myrtle, you can't go on! You're injured! You're sick! Oh, let
me call Mr. Hunt... Mr. Hunt: (in background) Overture, overture,
overture... (on-the-air buzzer sounds) Myrt: Hunt!? A
lot of sympathy I'd get from him! He'd just bawl me out for being
late. Marge: Oh, but Myrtle, your knee! How will you be
able to dance? Myrt: Margie, last night I missed my first show in ten years.
I'll go on if I have to dance with crutches... (theme music starts again)
there's the music now! (crying, over-dramatic) I'll make it.... I'll make
it... I've got to make it... Announcer: And so it goes with
show folks, they must forget personel worries and cares when the call
comes for a performance. Their creed: “The show must go on!” For
further adventures of Myrt and Marge, tune in the Wrigley program each
evening except Saturday and Sunday on your nearest Columbia Broadcasting
System. |

This is a round 4" record made for WRIGLEY. The
tune played on the record is Poor Butterfly, the show theme song.
The show was on the radio for 15 years, starting in 1931. The characters
were played real-life mother and daughter Myrtie Vail and Donna Damerel.
Donna (the daughter) died in childbirth in 1941 and the show still ran
another 4 or 5 years. The series is about two chorus girls who were
originally in a Broadway revue called, "Hayfield's Pleasures."
According to the Cooperative Analysis of Broadcasting (CAB) ratings
service in 1932 the show belonged to the top ten of radio programs.
Wrilgley was one of the major sponsors of the radio program. On the
