This
is a square 4" advertisement record
(possible for the Deveaux (?) Brush Company).
On
the label the text: < NIGHT & DAY - QUICK WATSON THE NEEDLE >
The reference to 'the needle' is just a cute saying derived from the
Sherlock Holmes novels of A. Conan Doyle. It was widely believed that
Sherlock Holmes was addicted to opium and the phrase "Quick Watson, the
needle!" was something he said frequently. In actuality, Doyle never uses
this phrase in any of his novels -- but it is often quoted anyway. Putting
this on the label of a record is just a play on words, in essence saying
play this record quickly |
